PRP Injections for Eye Bags

SCROLL

The lower eyelid area is a difficult area to treat due to its delicate thin skin and intricate structure. The manifestation of issues such as dark circles beneath the eyes (resulting from the thin skin and the discernibility of veins and/or the orbicularis oculi muscle through this thin skin), as well as volume deficiencies,  can be attributed to the natural aging process as well as other factors such as genetics and UV exposure.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) refers to plasma with a higher concentration of platelets than that found in whole blood. PRP is rich in various growth factors, which play a crucial role in its therapeutic efficacy. The effectiveness of PRP treatments can be explained by its stimulation of fibroblasts, increased production/secretion of collagen and one’s own hyaluronic acid, and recovery of ligament elasticity.

In the process of preparing PRP, blood is drawn and then undergoes centrifugation until it divides into three distinct layers: red blood cells , buffy coat, and platelet rich plasma.  PRP can then be extracted from the other components for application.

Overall PRP injections for the under eyes is a minimally invasive treatment approach which visibly improves the appearance of dark circles and eye bags with minimal risk and side effects. Three treatments are typically recommended with one month intervals in between. Results can last up to 6-12 months.
